Is there anyway of upgrading from version 1 to version 2 without losing the posts and the faqs?  is that information stored in the database and can it be moved into the new database?

Hmm, what is the exact version number you have?  There may be a way, but I'll have to know exactly what you are coming from.  And of course, back that DB up and your file system just in case.
