Hello.

I have been trying to install Help Centre Live and now have it up and running but I keep getting a yellow ! triangle at the bottom left of the IE window which gives me information about an error that may prevent the page from loading correctly. The error states the following:-

Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: Syntax error
Code: 0

Sometimes, the page just stays blank and I have to hit refresh to get the screen up and othertimes it just work straight away. There ! traingale is always there however.

How can I fix this?

What version of IE and HCL are you using?

I am using the latest version of IE (7.0.5730.11) on XP and HCL version 2.1.2.

Ok, did you install the sun java plugin?  I've seen some reports of errors with others.  Additionally, if your using IE you will want to set your server to a "trusted" site in your security items.  This will prevent the IE security from blocking the java from operating properly.

The java issue seems to only affect XP and Vista, since neither includes a java runtime enviroment.

Hello.

The strange thing is that I am currently in the process of moving my domain from my current host to my new host. I have my live HCL system running with the old host and it is running fine with no script errors or Live Support issues in IE XP or VIsta. However, having newley installed HCl with my new prospective host I am seeing these issues as stated. When I orignally installed HCL (many builds ago) I found support on the old Ubertec forums which are no longer active. I cannot remember but I might have had this issue before and resolve it via those old forums.

So, to sumarise, my existing live HCL instance on my old Domain host is working fine in all browsers and OS's but my new install is not as explained.

My PHP and CGI knowledge is limited so this doesn't help.

Could it be a permissions issue?

I did but then when I tried to access, the modules page for example, I got the following page...

So I set the admin/modules.php permision CHMOD to 755 and then it work (still with the script error)...

Hmm, your new host is using PHP-CGI.  Your going to have to change the permissions on every PHP file and ensure they are an odd number (1 higher then current).  Basically most files would be 755, if your ftp client has check boxes for the permissions, just check the execute for user, group and all, and your set.

Also, if your host is not using apache, you may end up with other problems.  Frankly with active caching, module PHP is pretty darn near as fast as fast-CGI, but that's just my opinion.

Hello.

Well you were right...

I set the CHMOD permission of all PHP files to 755 and now it works with no error messages. The live help window is also working now so they were both related.
