ok, i installed this through fantastico, so it should be set up properly. however, there seems to be a problem that neither i, nor the support team at my domain host, can figure out how to resolve.

it won't send mail. i'm not getting any errors. when i fill in the fields, and hit submit, it says it was sent successfully. but it's not going anywhere. i contacted my domain host first because i thought maybe i was putting the wrong information into the fields when i configured it from the admin controls. but apparently that wasn't the problem, and they thought it might be a malfunction on their end or something, and tried to see what they could do.

in the end, i got this email from them with the following suggestion... but i think this requires editing one of the tpl or php files, and i don't know which file to edit.

Quote
The only thing I can offer right now is to either check with the support forum or support dept of the publisher of the script package you are working with, or indeed simply change the form to work with the server's SendMail system. Personally I would probably just do the latter, it should only take a few minutes and it is a sure-fire solution.

i'm willing to do either option, so if someone could provide me with some direction i'd be grateful.

ALSO... while i'm at it, i'd like to edit the colours to more closely match my website, and also to add some additional text to the page where individuals have the option of talking live or sending an email.

if there are multiple files i'd have to edit for the colours, i'll skip that part. i don't have that much motivation. but the additional text is pretty important.

On the form issue, what kind of webserver software is being used.  Is this a Linux/Unix server?  I would be dis-inclined to use a regular sendmail function, as an upgrade would delete your changes.  Better to find the problem at resolve it.

On the color and text, simply edit your template files for the test.  Both templates use CSS files and you can adjust colors on all pages from the one file.  Look in /hcl/templates/<template name>/ and you'll find the files to edit.  BTW, when you have things the way you want them, you may want to back up your modified template for use later on newer versions of HCL.

What version of HCL are you using?  This can be found in the fine print of the admin part of the system, down at the bottom.

i THINK the webserver software is unix. i use linksky, and looking in my cpanel, i find this information:
Apache version     1.3.37 (Unix)

thanks for the info on the colour and text, i'll make sure to back them up Smiley

so i'm gonna play dumb here (ok maybe i'm not really playing!) if i don't use the sendmail, and i'm clueless on how to find the problem and resolve it, if you can tell me how to fix it, please don't hesitate to explain things as though i were the brunt of a dumb-blonde joke.... i won't be offended, i promise!

Actually, it's an issue that has been reported before that I am having a hard time replicating.  If your willing to try, I can build a logging version of the mailer class, which should give us the information we need.

Also if you can ask them the location of their sendmail binary, so that we can see if that is the issue, it would be most appreciated.

hehehe, you and me both (got a ton of fish this weekend!)

Also, can you check and see that all the e-mail information is filled out in the department setting.  Without that information, it is not able to send any mail.

already checked all the email stuff.... i've installed this on my church website so that it could be used as a "live prayer" feature, and set up an email of prayerteam (at my domain) and a forwarder so that during the testing phase, it forwards to my primary email address.

congrats on the fish! i didn't do any fishing... but i did enjoy the fruits of someone else's labor LOL. (there were several familes from our church on this camping trip.)

as for me, i was too busy taking pictures of mule deer, and of jackrabbits that were almost as big as the deer!

Heheh,  I love hunting with a camera.  But for fishing I have to be able to eat afterwards... hehehe.

Ok, I'm working up a hotfix, which is working, and resolves some issues with slow SMTP servers, I think that may be the issue.

This will be hcl-hotfix-2.1.3RC1-17 located on the portal site. http://www.helpcenterlive.com/dru/fileshare/files/hcl-hotfix-2.1.3RC1-17.zip

Extract the zip file and upload, overwriting the files in /hcl/class/phpmailer/

This hotfix will work on any version of HCL 2.1.2 and above...

Sorry, you have to log into the portal once to set the cookie.  You use the same username and password as the forums.  One of those "to do" things I keep meaning to get around to.

I noticed that Linksky requires that e-mail be in the form userID+domain.com however your e-mail is setup in the form of userID@domain.com  Just curious if that can be the issue.  It needs to be in the correct format to send the mail.  Most mail servers require authentication.  If yours does not, do not put anything in the SMTP User and password sections.

Please let me know if this helps.  We may add a switch to configuration which will force the sendmail type of send, it's not as flexible, but works nearly 100% of the time.

If anyone has a windows server having this problem, please let us know.
