Title: 2 Questions about using HCL
Post by: Blasphemy on June 27, 2007, 05:37:29 PM
Just wondering if there is any way of making the operators chat screen box flash or something when a customer requests a chat. We do not have speakers on the computers at work, but can go get some if there is no way of making a visual effect.

Also, on one of the computers we keep getting a missing plugin notice, saying that we are missing an apple quicktime plugin. I installed quicktime 7.1 but am still getting the error. Any idea what I need to install to fix that?

Thanks,
David Henderson

Couple of ideas, it should be possible to put a flash or animated gif in the template to cause the effect your looking for.  That way you get your flash.  Another thought is to create a popup which alerts to incoming chats, an idea I like, and will add to the feature requests in tracker for 3.0.0.

The missing plug-in is due to the fact that HCL uses MP3 files for the sounds.  Sounds like the plug-in did not associate to MP3's on the browser for some reason.

Well, on the subtle side, I was thinking of the simple address bar flashing when something has changed on the page thing. To at least get an operators attention in case they are on a different window when a chat request comes across.

I will try the flash thing, but again, would that make it noticable if it's not the focus window and is covered by a different window? Although I could try the popup thing you suggest. Looks like I have a little work ahead of me. Will let you know how it turns out in a bit:)

I like the java pop method, but really all of that can be done in java script.  Just a matter of picking up the chat request and activating the java.

One thing, if you get a visual indication and don't put speakers on, you might want to disable the sound method.  This will fix that quicktime issue, as the sound file is not sent.

Keep an eye out for something called hclApp, should start making noise about it within the next month or two.

Ok, one last question before I go off to try making popups and fun things for it. I installed it with the Bliss tempalte, because that was the one that was selected by default, so I assumed it was the best. However, looking at it now..I think I'd like G better, since it has lots of nice graphics. So, how do I change the tempalte without uninstalling and reinstalling HCL? I only saw a place to choose the template during install. Is it possible to change it on the fly?

It sure is, right now you have to edit config.php to change it, however that's fairly easy.  In 3.0.0, you'll be able to change it from the admin pages.

Ok, I tried it with the G template, not really what I thought it was. So I switche4d back to Bliss:) It's a little more intuitive. Now on to trying to make the popup:)

Thanks!

Ok, I seem to have broken something. I switched it to G, then switched back to Bliss. The admin/index.php looks fine, but when I click on the live help button and the monitor pops up, there's no template to it now it seems. The page comes up and all that is on it is in the upper left corner it says StatusSounds and then it show the ppl online, but very raw. Any idea what I did wrong?

Ok, well I don't know what borke it, but I deleted my Bliss folder off my server and reloaded it, and all looks ok again. Question about making the pop up notify, what tempalte file would I put the code in? Is it the monitor.tpl file?

The file would be monitor_content.tpl

Ok, I'll play around and see what I come up with.Maybe I can just replace the sound event with a pop up, since I don't need the sound.

Also, I didn't see the fix on the forum here for the conflict with virtuemart if used in IE. Did you know there was a problem? Basically if the customer is using IE and your shop is virtuemart, whenever they are on a page that uses the virtuemart compoent, the the live chat has been requested by an operator graphic is stuck on the screen and cannot be closed. There is a fix though, I applied it today and it worked great. Let me know if you need me to post it.

Please, if you can I'm sure that would help someone.  Either here or post a page in the install book on the portal part of the site.

BTW, I wish I would have known about you when we redid our water system a year ago.  Bad iron and sulpher, spent 3,000 and would have preferred to install it myself.

Heh, well if you ever need any water filtration stuff in the future, let us know:)

I will put it up in the installation page in a bit when I get a second. Funny thing is, that commercial company star something has the same issue, and they have no idea how to fix it:) I'll post the fix for ya though:

I went to a computer with speakers and tried initiating a chat request, but never heard any sound. Do I need to setup the sound somewhere? I made sure it was set to on in the monitor window.

What browser/OS are the operator computers?

Firefox/XP

It also seems to be just logging us off after 5 minutes of no activity. It shows online on the site, then if you refresh it shows offline, rather than switching to offline. However, we are not logging out, it just seems to kick us.

edit: Whoops, edited wrong message (mlz is a dork!)

Your refreshing the main page or the monitor?  If you refresh the monitor, it will log you off, it's something in the java which I haven't drilled into too much yet, mostly because the window shouldn't be opening with a navigation toolbar.

As for the sounds, what plugins do you have for FF?  Are you getting the plug-in error?  I know I have both latest quicktime and windows media, and FF works fine for me.

No, not getting the plugin error on the computers with sound. IT's just not making any sound when a chat is requested. I see the request.mp3 file in the bliss template, and if I click that I hear the voice say a chat has been requested. However, I opened the operator monitor on one computer, then on another computer went to our site and clicked live chat. I saw it sk if I wanted to accept the chat on the operator screen, but there was no sound.

As for the logging off. it's more like it just times out. Basically we have the monitor open for a bit, looking at who's logged into the site and what pages they are looking at, but not actually interacting with the window. Off on another window do something else for 5-10 minutes, then go back to the monitor window and it's basically timed out, not refreshing or anything.

I am making you an account, so if you want to see if it plays sounds for you, or if it times you out you can, if you don't have time, no worries..just making it an option:) use mlzhosting and [deleted]

it's cleanmywater.com/hcl/admin/index.php, of course you probably knew that:)

Edit: this time I intended to edit his message...

Ok, can you ask your operators to not answer any chats from bresnan.net for the next few minutes?

Ok, I'm getting the sounds for the page access' and chat requests.  Gotta be a plug in or something.  here's a list of my plug-ins.:

Java(TM) Platform SE 6
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r45
Mozilla Default Plug-in
iTunes Detector Plug-in
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape
QuickTime Plug-in 7.1.6
Microsoft? Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin

FireFox 2.0.0.4

So if you have the operator monitor open and then click on the live chat button from the site, it says "You have a chat request" or whatever? I know I only have quicktime 6, so I'll try upgrading to 7.1.

Did you happen to have the issue with the monitor timing out?

odd.

Sound didn't work on bosses computer after upgrading QT. Not sure what he is missing. Do the mp3 files need to be on his local harddrvie to play by chance?

Nope, but under FF, it won't preload, so the first time takes a few seconds.  Might check the rest of the plugins and see how they match between the working computer and the non-working.  One day I'm going to pull all the FF plugins and establish just which ones are needed.  Maybe after 2.1.3 is complete.

What's the mozilla default plugin? or do you mean default plugins? like anything that comes with it?

Actually, I'm going to un-install all added in ones, then start putting them in until things work.  That way I can post a list of plugins required for FF to work.

ok, I feel stupid. I did put the sound file mp3's on his computer just to make sure. Then I decided I'd try playing one, just to make sure it played. Low and behold, I got a windows media player popup to set up the media player to be able to play mp3's!LOL It's a VERY new computer:) So sound works now:)

I just wanted to bump this as I'm interesting in getting the blinking toolbar effect for when someone initiates a new chat.  I've run across scripts to make a popup or blinking toolbar on the client side but obviously that's not what is needed.  Other than that this is a really great program.  I was able to install get everything working on the first try.

Actually if cvenom96 or anyone else has a java script to do this, I could probably add it to the template to cause the effect.

Don't know if this is what you want, but this will change the titlebar text between 2 different sayings, a la flashing.

Code:
<script language=javascript>
function flasher(val)
{
var msg1  = "New chat request";  //Your message goes here
             var msg2  = "";  //This just makes the flashing illusion
var blinkrate = 500;  //This can be adjusted for a faster or slower blinking rate
var option = val;  //This variable tells which message to show in the titlebar

if(option == 0){
titlemsg = msg1;  //Set the title to message 1
option = 1;  //Change option so when timer expires other ifthen runs
}
else if(option == 1){
titlemsg = msg2;  //Set the title to message 2
option = 0;  //Change option so when timer expires other ifthen runs
}

document.title = titlemsg;  //Set titlebar to chosen message
timer = window.setTimeout("flasher("+pos+")",blinkrate);  //Setup a timer to constantly switch
}

flasher(0);  //Execute the function on page load, but this function could be called on an event and turned off with another event
</script>

Just a thought, maybe we can do something with it.

Just to save time for someone possibly?

To get sound working on new install Ubnutu 8. 04 Firefox version 3 you should have the mplayer plugin installed via Synaptic Package Manager.
