Sound Alerts Not Working
«

We're having problems with the sound alerts - is there a basic checklist of settings we need to make sure of in a browser?
Are there any ports numbers that may be firewalled that need to be opened?
Our primary monitoring platform is a Linux machine, generic Debian, or Ubuntu, latest Firefox or Opera. Even tried it with several other browsers and the alerts do not work. Fiddled with every concieveable javascript setting, enabling everything.
The only browser that appears to work right now outside of Windows is Safari on Mac. Windows is not an option, since none of our techs use Windows.
Thanks in advance.

I suggest mozplugger and the totem plug in. If on a redhat based distro, ensure you have mp3 capibility, since that is what the default files are.

Um, he's on Linux.
Until Apple gets a life and releases a decent quicktime plug in, you have to work around it.

OK the problem is fixed ... and may be related to perms on the sound files on the server, not entirely sure.
Back when we first installed the HCL software, around August we converted the mp3's to wavs and hacked one of the HelpCentre files to point to the wavs instead of mp3, it's really buried and we actually did this a few months ago and can't remember which file it is that we changed.
(This should be much simpler to configure)
The only browser that seems to work consistently with Ubuntu is Opera.
Also replaced the Euro voice announcements (ugh) (opchat, notify) with a more insistent alert sound - the one from LiveHelp.
